Coin Dated 1365-1369

Location: ZORITA DE LOS CANES — SPAIN

Origin: The coin was curiously found in an ossuary in the cemetery next to the Church of San Benito.

Significance: This coin dates to the period of the fratricidal war between Pedro I and Enrique de Trastámara (future Enrique II) 1365-1369. The war ended when Enrique beheaded Pedro and claimed the throne. Based upon its location in an ossuary, it raises the question if the individual was killed as a result of the war for being on the losing side - or was he thrown into the ossuary for the same reason?
