Decorative Plaster Door Ornamentation

Location: ZORITA DE LOS CANES — SPAIN

Origin: Found on the door frames of the private chamber of the castle’s mayor.

Significance: In the XV century, these decorative frames adorned the room once (XI century) occupied by the mayor of Zorita who was Alvar Fáñez, a relative of the famed Spanish Knight, El Cid. These rooms are not yet excavated as archaeologists are waiting to raise funds to preserve the rich plasterwork.
